It’s good to chat

Chucked In Gadgets.

Gettingitout, like most of our ideas, was born from the primeval pool of an MSN chat session.

To communicate across this medium I had, for quite a while, been using AdiumX. A mac based, independent and cross-network messaging client that was fully customisable and worked seamlessly with other mac applications and scripts. Last night I downloaded the latest MSN Messenger (version 6.0.2) to see what, if any, improvements had been made.

Well for a start it worked! I’m not a great fan of Microsoft products but the previous version failed to function properly on any mac I tried to install it on, consequently forcing me to find another client. However, affiliations aside, the new Messenger seemed more stable and there were quite a few little extras thrown in too.

So now it has put me in a situation. The functionality and stability of the new version is much improved, yes it still looks clunky and playschool like (probably because it is their target audience), and with better multi-chat and file transfer stability than AdiumX and also the use of custom emoticons it does have it’s pluses but it is still no-where near as customisable nor as good looking as AdiumX.

Additionally we Mac users are still waiting for the A/V version the PC users have had for quite a while, (I know there are a few clients out there already), but to be quiote honest the thought of switching it on and seeing Sam Gettingitout in his pink undercrackers will probably keep me from taking that step anyhow.

So with these early impressions do I go with MSN Messenger or AdiumX? Hmm I really dunno they both have their pros and cons, so depending upon my mood, I might change them as much as Sam changes his underpants.
