Music has always played an integral part of my live and creative inspiration. Depending what kind of mood I’m in will depend what I listen too, but there are a few bands that I play no matter what. Texas is the Reason is one such band.
I was introduced to their post-hardcore energetic yet emotional debut and only album, ‘Do you know who you are’, back during the long, hazy and somewhat alcohol infused university days, and have struggled to remove it from my CD player since.
Yesterday, however, the Irving Plaza NYC held host the their last ever gig. The band had infact, quite unceremoniously, split way back in 1996 whilst touring Germany and on the verge of signing to a major label, but they recently put their differences behind them to play a 10 year anniversary gig. Aside from the recorgnition of the release of a great record it was a closure gig, a time and place to put a great band finally to rest and a show to give the fans and friends something to hold and keep.
I, of course, couldn’t be there although I wish I were, and even though the band is now officially dead, no pulse, no brain-waves, the music will live on to inspire others just as it continues to inspire to me.
